The former owner built his dream home from his lottery winnings of 100,000 Contos or 100,000,000 Escudos equivalent to € 500,000. The house has since been known under the name of "A Casa dos Cem Mil" which can be translated as "The House of One hundred Thousand” and still bear reminders of its past.   You will notice some particularities: on your entrance of hand painted azulejos behind the reception desk and on the lower walls of the staircase; the ceilings in dining room, now the restaurant will surprise you by their moldings and rosettes, they are better seen when lit by the magnificent crystal chandeliers; the bathrooms have gilded taps in the shape of a fish though they have seen better days. Each bathroom have their own color scheme to match the rooms. "Legend" has it that the bathroom fitter was color blind… the result of which is the blue tub in the red bathroom and vice versa. Unfortunately it is an impossible task to reverse as the tiles are un-findable. Fortunately, only this went wrong!!! In 2003, after having been vacated and neglected, the house was discovered by the Dutch owner Eddy Keur. The house was refurbished, rebuilt and converted into Charm Hotel "Os Dois Galos" (The Two Roosters) and opened its doors on 8th April 2004.
